The current nursing shortage is expected to continue for many years to come, some predict past 2020 with over one million vacant positions. Nursing school applicants have a number of choices available to them when it becomes time to look for registered nurse colleges. There are a number of ways that one can become a registered nurse, but we will cover the two primary methods that most students take.

The first way is a 2 year ASN degree program that is available at the various 2 year accredited colleges. Students graduating from this program are eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, and upon receiving a passing grade, receive their nursing license and can work as a registered nurse.
